Truck dispatchers schedule freight deliveries and arrange pickups of shipments and parcels. Their duties include scheduling truck drivers, relaying shipment details as arranged with customers, and setting up drivers' routes. Truck dispatchers are also required to review truck drivers' logs.

Freight brokers work with both shippers and carriers but do not represent either one. Dispatcher represent only the carrier when negotiating freight.

Independent dispatchers earn either a percentage or flat fee for each load they set up for their drivers.
